Allen Weltig, DVM

Dr. Allen Weltig is head of avian and exotic animal medicine and surgery department at Webster Groves Animal Hospital. A native of Missouri, Dr. Weltig joined the veterinary medical team at Webster Groves in 2007 after practicing medicine at a number of veterinary hospitals in the area. He attended Truman State University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 1999 and continued his education at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine where he completed his veterinary studies. Dr. Weltig was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2003.
Dr. Weltig's professional interests include reptile, amphibian and small mammal medicine and surgery. He is an active member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians.
Dr. Weltig shares his home with a number of pets, including three dogs, two cats, a bearded dragon, a trio of snakes and a green iguana. A member of numerous professional organizations, Dr. Weltig also works at the St. Louis Zoo as an interpreter, where he educates zoo guests about the animals. In his spare time, he has many creative pursuits, including playing music on the guitar, piano and banjo, among other instruments and acting and directing. He also enjoys camping, biking and fishing as well as spending time with his wife and daughter.
