Allen Weltig, DVM

Dr. Allen K. Weltig is a General Practitioner specializing in Avian and Exotic Companion Animal Medicine. He joined the veterinary medical team at Webster Groves in 2007 after practicing medicine at a number of veterinary hospitals in the area.

A native of Columbia, Missouri, Dr. Weltig attended Truman State University for his undergraduate studies and received a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1999. That same year he enrolled in the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. His areas of special professional interest include avian, small mammal, amphibian and reptile medicine and surgery. He is also a member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Weltig and his wife Deborah have two young children named Elizabeth and William. The family also provides a home for many reptiles, which includes an iguana named Max, several snakes, tortoise, and other lizards. They also care for a Labrador Retriever named Belle and two cats named Gelpi and Logan.

When not caring for his many animals, Dr. Weltig’s interests include playing music, particularly six and 12 string guitar, piano, banjo and mandolin. He also enjoys going out to the theater, fishing and biking.
